At Tasman Libraries, we offer books in a range of formats to suit everyone's needs. For popular titles and authors, we often provide multiple options, including:
- Printed books
- Large Print books
- eBooks
- eAudiobooks
- Audio discs (talking books on CD)
For instance, if you’re looking for Lucinda Riley’s latest novel, you might find we have copies in all these formats. If the printed version of the book you want is already checked out with a long waitlist, you might have better luck with the eBook, or you could try one of the audio versions if they suit you better.
Why are there no available copies of the eBook you want?
We subscribe to several platforms for eBooks and eAudiobooks, including Bolinda, which works with the BorrowBox App, Overdrive, which works with the Libby App, Hoopla, and Bridget Williams Books NZ History collection. Each platform offers a different selection of titles, and usually, only one person can borrow a copy at a time, just like with printed books. However, for some popular titles, we can offer simultaneous checkouts, meaning multiple copies of an eBook may be available at the same time, sometimes 40 or 50 copies or more (great for a large book club group)!
How can I tell what eBooks and eAudio are available in what app?
If you are searching the main library catalogue, sometimes it's a little tricky to understand which eBook platform the eBook or eAudiobook is on - BorrowBox or Libby. Here’s a quick tip to identifying them from the results list in the library catalogue.
-
- BorrowBox (Bolinda): Listed as 'Electronic format BORROWBOX EBOOK' or 'Electronic Format BORROWBOX EAUDIOBOOK' in the search results screen.
-
- Libby (Overdrive): Listed as 'Electronic Format HTML' or 'Electronic Format LIBBY AUDIOBOOK' in the search results screen. The result may also say 'Vendor: Libby' near the top of the record.
Library staff are happy to help if you have any questions about the different formats and platforms or searching for specific formats on the library catalogue.
