Matariki Holiday Programme July 2020

 

The star cluster Matariki appears in our skies in the month of Pipiri (June-July), marking the start of the Māori New Year.  Join us as we celebrate this special time of the year!

 

Matariki star hunt     

We have hidden nine stars in and around Richmond, Motueka and Takaka libraries for you to find! You can find all nine just for fun, and scan the QR code on each to learn some fascinating star facts. The star hunt runs from 6 -17 July 2020.

Relax with a book

Pop in and find a great book to read! We have books on astronomy and Matariki

Take and make star craft kit   

Collect your free craft kit from any of our four libraries. Decorate your star however you like and share a photo of it with us! You can upload it here or share to our Tasman Libraries Facebook page. The craft kits are available from 6 -17 July 2020.

Paint and hide a rock   

Get creative and make a treasure for others to find. Information about how to get involved is on the Tasman District Council website.

Matariki activity booklet   

Collect your free activity booklet from any of our libraries. You can also download directly from the Te Papawebsite. (Thanks, Te Papa!) You may collect your booklet from 6-17 July 2020.

Lit night bike ride   

Decorate your bike with lights and enjoy the stars above you! Find out more about this event on the Tasman District Council website.

Library light display   

Go for a stroll to your library at night to see a special light display in the window. The display will be up from 6-17 July 2020.

Techy Time at Motueka Library

Young tech-lovers are welcome to drop in to Techy Time to learn through play with our Bots, 3Doodler pens, LEGO and more! Children aged 7+ will get the most from these resources. Parents/whānau are welcome to join in the fun!

Let's Discover Matariki Storytime at Motueka Library

Our Let's Discover Matariki Storytimes are suitable for 4-9 year olds. Pre-schoolers, please bring an adult. Come and join us for some fantastic stories and celebrate Matariki! Get creative and make something exciting to take home.

Matariki rock painting MakerSpace at Motueka Library

Come along and paint rocks with your own designs. Find a place to hide your rock and explore your local area to see what others have created. All ages are welcome.

Takaka Library Events

Waffles and books for teens

Enjoy scrumptious waffles and books. Bring a friend and enjoy one of life's simple pleasures! Bring along your favourite topping. After the cook-up we can share our favourite books, music, films and apps. Ages 12-15 welcome. $3 per person. Call 03 525 0059 to book your spot.
