New Motueka Library building

Motueka Library in 2010
Work started on the new Motueka Public Library building in September and it's now starting to take shape. The library moved to its current site on Pah Street in 1955, but despite doubling it's floor size in 1986, and a number of more recent extensions, it hasn't managed to keep up with our growing community.
The new 1100 square metre building in Decks Reserve will be more than twice the size of the current building, which is 453 square metres. That's plenty of space for more books, class visits and community events.
As well as the much needed indoor space, the new site will also have extra outdoor space, with seating, a terrace and wide verandahs.
The new building has been designed with sustainability in mind and will utilise passive heating and cooling and be built from environmentally-friendly materials.
The new library opens in early 2022, about the same time that the Motueka Public Library will celebrate it's 164th birthday.
