Matariki Fun for Children

Tuesday 30 June 2020

The star cluster Matariki appears in our skies in the month of Pipiri (June-July), marking the start of the Māori New Year. The Children's Team will be celebrating Matariki with a mixture of fun events and passive programming in libraries across Tasman District.

An indoor-outdoor star scavenger hunt will keep kids entertained at Motueka, Richmond and Takaka libraries. QR codes with fun star information can be found on each star poster for those who would like to learn more about the wonders of the night sky.

Children can also collect a Matariki activity booklet and a star craft kit to take home. The craft kit includes craft supplies and a star card. Children can beautify their star, take a photo and upload it to the library website. Both the booklet and the kit are available to collect from all four Tasman libraries.

Find out what's happening at your local library by going to our dedicated Matariki Holiday Programme page.
