Dyslexia Awareness Month

Monday 4 October 2021

If you're looking to understand someone with dyslexia, or want some ideas about how to see dyslexia as a gift rather than a hindrance, why not check out what Tasman District Libraries hold on the topic? October is Dyslexia Awareness Month so now is a great time to learn about what dyslexia really means.

Some basic tips for parents looking for reader-friendly children's books are to choose books with 1.5 spacing that are aligned left with ragged right, are printed on non-white paper and contain sans serif font. Barrington Stoke are publishers that specialise in printing for dyslexic readers, and you can even search the entire library catalogue for specific books that are dyslexia friendly. You can also alter your eBook settings to make the text on the screen dyslexic-friendly.

Need some help getting started? Why not use our Book a Librarian service for 45 minutes of free assistance on the topic of your choice. In order to continue offering this service at Alert Level 2, we can talk with you about your queries over Zoom or the telephone.
