Diversity and Children

Friday 29 March 2019

After the recent Christchurch incident children have been asking their parents and caregivers some tricky questions about racism and other cultures and religions. Reading together about different cultures, races, gender identities, or abilities is a great way to help children learn about lives different from their own, and understand and value diversity.

Tasman District Libraries have a range of books that will help you start a conversation or answer difficult questions from your child, whether they are a pre-schooler or young adult.

Library staff can help you find the books you need, or you can find books on the library catalogue using some of the following keywords:  Cultural differences, cultural diversity, cultural pluralism, multicultural, cross-cultural, ethnicity, multiculturalism, discrimination, gender identity, gender expression, children with disabilities.
