NZ Book Council Survey

Friday 4 August 2017

On one of our busiest days recently, close to 1,200 people come through our doors at Richmond Library.

So it's hard to believe that almost half a million people in New Zealand haven't read a book in the last 12 months. The majority of these New Zealanders don't have the time to read, didn't enjoy reading or find it easier to watch the movie.

This was just some of the many interesting findings in the Book Reading in New Zealand survey, which was conducted by Horizon Research for the New Zealand Book Council.

It's not all bad news though. On average we devour 20.6 books a year, mostly for relaxation and enjoyment with crime, thriller and adventure stories standing out as the favourites.
