Let us help you unravel the mysteries of using a computer - and it won't cost you a cent.

LogoSteppingUP computer classes is a national digital literacy initiative developed by Digital Inclusion Alliance Aotearoa. All classes are free. Classes may be cancelled if minimum registrations are not reached.

Learn how to use Google Drive to store, create and share files.

This class includes:

  • What is Google Drive?
  • What would I use Google Drive for?
  • How do I get started?
  • Using Google Drive apps

Prerequisites:

Basic computer skills are essential.

You must have a current email account. Bring your email address, email password and cellphone (to access your email account).

Introduction to Chromebooks

Learn how to use Chromebook and its online capabilities.

This class includes:

  • Introduction to Chromebooks
  • Setting up a Gmail account
  • Keyboard and touchpad
  • Using Google Chrome
  • Google Docs

Basic computer skills are essential

 

Thursday 31 October,

Photo Books

Understand how to use Vistaprint website, learn to upload photos from your computer, create and customise a photo book for printing.

This course includes:

  • Creating a photo book
  • Learning to use Vistaprint
  • Getting the photo book ready for printing

Prerequisites:

Basic computer skills are essential

Bring a USB stick with stored photos to use during this lesson

Introduction to Ancestry

 

Learn tips for effective searching on Ancestry.com, including records that are available in the UK and New Zealand.

This class includes:

  • Search tips for using Ancestry
  • Record collections for New Zealand
  • Record collections for the UK
  • Viewing Public Member Trees
  • How to send records home from the library

Online research - DigitalNZ

DigitalNZ aims to make New Zealand digital content more useful and easier to discover. It is a search service coordinated by the National Library which includes helping people find, share and use digital materials from libraries, museums, government departments, publicly funded organisations, the private sector and community groups.

This class includes:

  • What DigitalNZ is and how it works
  • How to search across digital at digitalnz.org
  • How to refine your search
  • How to make and share a set of favourites
